Whenever one utters the word communication, we immediately think about ‘speaking,’ ‘listening,’ ‘writing,’ ‘giving feedback,’ etc.
Are we missing out on a crucial aspect of communication, though?
What about taking a pause about which we seldom teach and learn? I think it is a rare art, a skill of perseverance.
Pause before you speak anything. You’ll be surer of what you want to say. Take time before you decide to lend your ears to someone’s feelings. Listening takes a lot of patience. Wait and process your thoughts before you decide to write anything. Your words will be more precise and clear. Think a bit before giving feedback. What may be intriguing or necessary to you may not be relevant to others. Breathe. Take a pause.
